About Me: Andrew Christjoy

I’m a resident of Texas, USA and a Ph.D. candidate at Texas A&M University. In my research I study the resilience of individuals, organizations, and communities.

Resilience

Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity through individual strong-mindedness and the network of support from the people around us. I study communication practices that help form our identity and make sense of the world around us.

About the Project

This project is part of my graduate study at Texas A&M University. It involves studying the Church of the Nativity to understand how the building and the congregation have continued for so many centuries.

Why

I believe the Church of the Nativity is interesting to study because it is the oldest church building in the world with a congregation that continues to worship faithfully despite many challenges. I want to know why the Church of the Nativity continues to thrive when so many churches in the world and in the United States are dying or have closed. I plan to tell the story of the Church of the Nativity so that other churches can find inspiration for their own resilience.

End Product

This is a one-month project during July of 2023 that I will use as part of my dissertation field research to receive my Ph.D. My goal is to write a paper for publication and produce a film to showcase my findings regarding resilience at the Church of the Nativity. Along the way, I will be posting videos to document the story of the project to various social media platforms.

For Participants

Participants will be observed and interviewed by the researcher. You will need to verbally agree to be on videos that will be posted to YouTube and shown as part of a documentary film. Both the YouTube videos and documentary film will be used to promote this project and tell stories about the resilience of the Church of the Nativity.
